Can you save the Metropol?

More than 18,000 signatures have been collected as the initiative to save Bonn’s Metropol continues.
The Bonn Residents Collective ‘Rettet Das Metropol’ has a stand to collect signatures outside the Cinema every Saturday – during the week you can add your name via a petition in the Cinema foyer.
The Metropol as BEN earlier reported is a listed building, but was sold last December. Bonn’s ‘General Anzeiger’ reported that the new owners planned to turn the building, one of the last Art Deco ones of its kind, into a ladies clothes shop. Since then a petition has been started to ensure that the new owners are legally obliged to maintain the buildings present fassade and interior. It is not the first time the Metropol has been under threat – in the 1980’s a shopping passage was planned – the greatest petition in Bonn’s history (23,000 signatures) saved the day. Look at the pictures below and decide what you want in this location – clothes or culture?
