Expats and the Prince

There was a special ’surprise’ for those attending the latest BonnExpats get-together this week with the visit of a Prince. No, not Charles, but Amir I and his Princess Uta I. With a colourful entourage of ‘Stadtsoldaten’ to protect them in their busy travels from one engagement to the next they certainly added colour and spectacle to an already colourful and enjoyable evening.

The BonnExpat Committee had arranged the Collegium Leoninum in Bonn with festive balloons and had crayons and red noses in reserve for those of us (yes, me included!) who had not already dressed up. Armed (?) with my fresh new red nose I enjoyed conversations with a Pirate, a Geisha girl and a gardener amongst many others.

Highlight of course was the visit of Amir Shafaghi and Uta Göbels aka Amir I and Uta I. Amir is actually also sort of an Expat himself in that he was born in Tehran and moved to Bonn in 1980 where he became enamoured by all things Carnivalistic -meeting Uta along the way.
Moral of the story is that we can all be a Prince/Princess even if we are not from Germany. Not sure I would want to wear the hat though – especially not on the Deutsche Bahn to work, and I don’t have the legs for those white stockings…

My thanks to the organizers of the event who had clearly put in a lot of hard work. Here are a few images to remind you of the evening (or make you jealous for missing it if you weren’t there!)
